Key Points. Uranium Energy is directly benefiting from a massive spike in uranium prices. The stock has already increased 15 times in value, but more upside could be around the corner. This looks like a millionaire-maker stock, with an important catch.
Although it is a commodity, uranium cannot be traded directly due to its radioactive nature. Instead, investors can gain exposure to uranium through stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that represent companies involved in the mining and production of uranium.
Cameco (NYSE:CCJ,TSX:CCO)
Cameco's key operations include a 54.55 percent stake in the Cigar Lake mine, which is considered the most prolific uranium mine in the world. The company also has a 70 percent stake in the McArthur River mine and an 83 percent interest in the Key Lake mill.
There are three major producers at present: Orano, Rosatom, and Urenco operating large commercial enrichment plants in France, Germany, Netherlands, UK, USA, and Russia.
Uranium prices have been on the rise over the past several years. At the start of 2017, it was around $18 a pound. By mid-2020, uranium was about $33 a pound. Today, it's more than $100 a pound. And that has a lot of mining companies announcing new operations, or reactivating existing ones.
A global push to deliver a faster and cheaper clean energy transition is tipped to push uranium prices even higher as governments embrace the nuclear fuel to meet aggressive carbon emission reduction targets.
Many uranium stocks are small companies with uncertain futures. Extremely few uranium stocks pay dividends to shareholders. However, for investors willing to take the risk, the long-term potential could be rewarding. Uranium stocks are set to benefit from continued long-term growth of nuclear energy around the world.
Uranium prices are very important to uranium miners, as in recent years levels have not been high enough for production to be economic. However, in 2024, prices spiked from the US$58 in August 2023 to a high of US$106 per pound U3O8 in February 2024. At this price level, uranium stocks remain highly undervalued.
What are the predictions for uranium stocks?
The average price target for Uranium Energy is $10.21. This is based on 4 Wall Streets Analysts 12-month price targets, issued in the past 3 months. The highest analyst price target is $13.00 ,the lowest forecast is $7.60. The average price target represents 62.58% Increase from the current price of $6.28.
Uranium Energy (NYSEMKT: UEC) stock has proven a profitable investment in recent years. In 2020, shares traded hands for just $0.38. Today, their price is around $7. Huge money has already been made with Uranium Energy stock, but the company argues that its future remains incredibly bright.
Globally uranium demand is expected to rise by 28% by 2030 and to double by 2040.
U.S. nuclear power plants imported about 12% of their uranium from Russia in 2022, compared to 27% from Canada and 25% from Kazakhstan, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Nac Kazatomprom (Kazakhstan: KAP)
National Atomic Company KazAtomProm (KAP) is the world's largest producer and seller of uranium, accounting for almost 25% of global uranium output. The company is a national operator within Kazakhstan and is responsible for the country's import and export of uranium and nuclear fuel.
BHP Group Limited (NYSE:BHP), Denison Mines Corp. (NYSE:DNN), NexGen Energy Ltd. (NYSE:NXE), and Cameco Corporation (NYSE:CCJ) are some top uranium stocks to buy.

The states with the largest known uranium ore reserves (not counting byproduct uranium from phosphate) are (in order) Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado.
Uranium Stock #1: Cameco Corp
Valued at $18.37 billion by market cap and based out of Canada, Cameco Corporation (CCJ) is one of the largest uranium producers globally.
What will the price of uranium be in 2025?
The World Nuclear Association estimates the commodity's price would have to rise above $100 a pound and stay there for a while to have a considerable impact on operating costs. BofA Global Research forecasts that spot uranium prices will reach $105 a pound this year and $115 a pound in 2025.
Investors can get financial exposure to uranium in other ways as well, helping keep supplies tight and putting upward pressure on uranium prices to complement expected increases in demand from nuclear power plants as the energy transition gains steam.
Thorium. Thorium is an element that can be used as a fuel in the nuclear cycle. It is an alternative to uranium, and the technology to facilitate the use of thorium has been around since the 1960s.
Uranium consumption is the highest in the United States, China, and France, which are the world's leading nuclear energy producers. However, Kazakhstan and Canada are among the top global producers of uranium with around 21,227 metric tons and 7,351 metric tons produced in 2022, respectively.
A thorium fuel cycle can offer several potential advantages over a uranium fuel cycle—including the much greater abundance of thorium found on Earth, superior physical and nuclear fuel properties, and reduced nuclear waste production. One advantage of thorium fuel is its low weaponization potential.
