Does using Mint affect credit score?
Does Mint hurt your credit score? No. Mint's free TransUnion VantageScore credit score feature, which allows you to check your credit score anytime, doesn't affect your credit rating. However, you'll need to provide your Social Security number to access this feature.
Pros of Mint | Cons of Mint |
---|---|
Ease of use | Lack of investing features |
Free to use | Intrusive ads |
Financial summaries and alerts via email or text message | Problems with account synchronization |
Free credit score courtesy of Equifax | Lack of bill pay feature |
It won't hurt your credit report or credit score to do so. Still, Mint is the app you want to keep on your phone for checking transactions, budgets, bills, and managing all the minutiae of your financial life.
Is Mint safe to use? Mint is a personal finance app that is safe to use. The company has safety features including multi-factor authentication and security scanning tools to keep your account and personal data safe. Does it cost money to use Mint?
Why do my credit scores look different on Mint vs Credit Karma? Mint uses TransUnion to pull credit scores, while Credit Karma uses both TransUnion and Equifax. Sometimes the scores between the two credit bureaus can differ.
The reason for closing down the Mint app is the supposed consolidation of Intuit's personal finance products and to prioritize their focus on Credit Karma, which has more features and functions than Mint. However, some key features that made Mint what it is are said not to be available in Credit Karma, like budgeting.
"It became so popular that Intuit decided to buy it back in 2009. And all this time, Intuit has allowed Mint to run as a free alternative to Quicken. But apparently, that time is over as they look to 'streamline' their offerings."
Mint will go offline March 23, 2024.
The Mint budgeting app officially shut down on March 23, 2024, and users can no longer access their data on the app. Intuit®, which owns Mint and other personal finance platforms like QuickBooks® and TurboTax®, suggested users migrate to Credit Karma, which it also owns.
If you want to stick with Intuit, the company promises a seamless transition from Mint to Credit Karma. The app will let you know when you can begin moving your financial account data over. Note that once you transfer to Credit Karma, you will no longer be able to access Mint but can still download transactions.
No, the Mint does not report to the IRS. They are part of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. What is the best option to manage your personal finance (and investments)?
Is Mint app shutting down?
Visit your My NerdWallet Settings page to see all the writers you're following. Intuit Inc. announced that it will shut down Mint on March 23, 2024. The company's decision to discontinue the popular budgeting app could leave millions of users scrambling to find a replacement.
Millions of users trust Mint with their information. That's because Mint uses the same 128-bit SSL encryption and physical security standards as your bank. Mint is also verified and monitored by online security experts at TRUSTe and VeriSign, among others.
Is Mint Safe to Use? Mint uses bank-grade security, which means it doesn't even have access to what you type when you connect your financial accounts. You can't initiate transfers of money or payouts of any kind from the app, which means no one else can either.
Why is my FICO® score different from my credit score? Your FICO Score is a credit score. But if your FICO score is different from another of your credit scores, it may be that the score you're viewing was calculated using one of the other scoring models that exist.
A lot of the choice between Empower and Mint is going to come down to personal preference. The tools each provide similar offers, and it isn't clear that one is hands down better than the other. Try out each of them — download the apps and look at the tutorials.
Keep balances low on credit cards and other revolving credit: high outstanding debt can negatively affect a credit score. Pay off debt rather than moving it around: the most effective way to improve your credit scores in this area is by paying down your revolving (credit card) debt.
The Federal Trade Commission has issued an Opinion and Final Order that Intuit Inc., the maker of the popular TurboTax tax filing software, engaged in deceptive advertising in violation of the FTC Act and deceived consumers when it ran ads for “free” tax products and services for which many consumers were ineligible.
Intuit, the owner of widely used financial software applications like TurboTax, bought Mint in 2009 from its founder for $170 million. At the time of the acquisition, Mint, which had been privately held, had 1.5 million users tracking nearly $50 billion in assets and $200 billion in transactions.
Mint.intuit.com, otherwise known simply as Mint or Mint.com, and regarded as one of the premier personal financial-summary tools, primarily generates revenue through two streams: advertisem*nts that appear on its website and app and referrals to other institutions and companies within the financial services industry.
Mint Mobile, the prepaid wireless brand in which Ryan Reynolds holds a minority ownership stake, has been acquired by T-Mobile in a deal worth up to $1.35 billion.
What will happen to mint customers?
By Jan. 1, 2024, consumers will no longer be able to use the Mint app. Whether you choose to migrate to Credit Karma or choose a different budgeting platform altogether, the switch is going to take some getting used to.
Mint, which offers cheap prepaid plans, is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that already offers service over T-Mobile's network. By purchasing Mint, T-Mobile may be looking to claw back the customers it lost when it sold Boost Mobile to Dish as part of its merger with Sprint.
Migrating to Credit Karma will cause you to immediately lose access to your Mint Account. Setting monthly budgets and customized categories is currently not possible with Credit Karma. Setting up your data on Credit Karma will take time. The longer you have been using Mint, the longer it will take to set up your data.

Insights from Mint also provide extra help to spot trends in your spending so you can save money. Among free budgeting apps, it's hard to find another app that provides more value than Mint. It's not perfect, but it's an excellent tool whether you're a budgeting pro or a novice.
